GatorWalk: Place Based Branding

GatorWalk was created as a place-based branding project for ENC3252 – Writing for Strategic Communication. This assignment challenged me to design a highly personalized, interactive experience that helps new students connect with the University of Florida’s spaces and traditions. I developed “An Evening Walk Through Gainesville: GatorWalk” as both a digital guide and a branded storytelling experience. The project was meant to be both practical in use and reflective of UF’s strong sense of community and culture. The finalized version of this project lives on Google Sites and includes a personalized route of the UF campus, accompanied by my own pictures and descriptions.

The GatorWalk site functions as a walking route that highlights key UF landmarks. Each location includes curated descriptions and descriptions to help readers understand what makes each space meaningful. The place-based branding in this project emphasizes connection, belonging and exploration, all vital elements of the UF experience. GatorWalk highlights my ability to blend storytelling, design and strategy into a cohesive piece. The website also skillfully depicts how I approach creative branding not just as a visual exercise, but as a narrative and emotional one.

Sephora: Native Advertisement

This piece was created for my Native Advertising class project in Writing for Strategic Communication. The project consists of a BuzzFeed-style listicle highlighting Sephora’s Kosas Tinted Brow Gel. The goal of this assignment was to seamlessly embed the advertisement into the publishing house’s lifestyle layout and tone while maintaining editorial credibility and transparency. The project includes a design mockup, documentation explaining the product and marketing goals of the piece. The listicle highlights the Kosas Brow gel as an essential beauty product, accompanied by a conversational description that aligns with BuzzFeed’s editorial tone. The mock article also includes a paid-promotion disclaimer and mock-ups of the other items listed in the listicle.

This piece demonstrates my ability to blend editorial storytelling with strategic advertising, especially on a platform where content must feel organic and not “over-sold.” This piece highlights my careful attention to brand voice and ethical transparency. The native advertising project showcases my ability to craft visually cohesive, appealing content that resonates with real-world media environments and audiences while meeting true client objectives. Ultimately, this sample highlights my strengths in adaptability, digital content creation, and strategic writing, as well as my ability to produce polished, engaging work.

Opus: Content Marketing Proposal

This project was created as part of a content marketing assignment for Writing for Strategic Communication, in which I developed a comprehensive strategic proposal for Opus Coffee, a local Gainesville small business. The goal of the assignment was to create a research-driven marketing plan that included a brand overview, signature story pieces, knowledge branding pieces and a publishing calendar. Since Opus is deeply integrated into the University of Florida’s culture, the project pushed me to create content that felt truly authentic and aligned with Opus Coffee’s character. The final deliverable was a sectioned content marketing proposal that included a company description, target audience identification, a month-long content calendar, two sample deliverables, and KPI and ROI projections.

This piece showcased my strengths in developing strategic content, audience insight metrics and structured communication plans. The Opus Coffee proposal also highlighted my ability to think holistically about a brand by connecting their mission, identity and community involvement into one marketing piece. My ability to create organized, narrative and educational content was showcased, in which my versatility in producing consumer-friendly signature stories and informative knowledge deliverables was depicted. Overall, this marketing proposal reflects my strong ability to create and publish polished, thoughtful and audience-focused consumer content.

Through my time in ENC352 – Writing for Strategic Communication, I have gained a deeper understanding of how to communicate with strategy and intention. Each project helped expand my skill set and my critical thinking, especially in considering how audiences experience storytelling and messages. When completing these pieces, I learned that effective communication is rarely accidental, but instead is shaped by research, purpose and revision.

Developing multi-faceted projects, such as the Opus Coffee Content Marketing Proposal and the BuzzFeed Native Advertisement, strengthened my ability to adapt my tone and visuals to consumer preferences. I became fluent in balancing creativity with strategy by understanding that strong communication requires clear reasoning and a complete comprehension of client needs. I also gained substantial experience working across various publishing platforms and programs, including websites, content calendars, the Canva Suite, Google Sites, and other branding assets. However, the most meaningful takeaway from this semester was my newfound ability to integrate my unique, personal voice into my academic work. I successfully communicated my focus on thoughtful storytelling, attention to detail and organizational skills. I am now fully aware of the fundamental importance of crafting skillful work that reflects a competent mind, as well as a strong point of view and a unique narrative.
